Marketing Trends That Will Boost Your Strategy

Taking on digital marketing is a fickle business. To quote Q from the James Bond movie Skyfall, “It’s like taking on a Rubik’s cube that is fighting back.” As soon as you figure out a strategy, a new platform has arisen that you need to utilize. How can you possibly keep up with every single new platform that comes up? Certainly, they’re not all worth using.

Luckily, there is a balance that can be struck. The trick is to identify the current mainstream trends, not the fads. If you focus on the fads, then you’ll quickly pull all of your hair out and end up in a padded room. Pick out the trends, map out a strategy on which ones to focus on, and execute your plan. If you do that, then you should see some semblance of success. Below are some strategies that you can use for a little while to keep your digital marketing at hand

Mobile devices have taken the masses by storm. Now, I could regale you with facts such as:

  • 67% of cell owners find themselves checking their phone for messages, alerts, or calls — even when they don’t notice their phone ringing or vibrating.
  • 44% of cell owners have slept with their phone next to their bed because they wanted to make sure they didn’t miss any calls, text messages, or other updates during the night.
  • 42% of American adults own a tablet computer

However, I don’t need to do that. All those facts are courtesy of PewResearchCenter. I went to a Starbucks recently to meet a colleague, and I saw people who had a tablet, smartphone, and laptop with them. I thought to myself, “Seriously? Do you really need all three at the same time?” Key point being, make sure your emails, website, etc. are optimized for mobile technol

New EMV credit cards are out, and they’re trying to make a big push to get everybody on one by October 1st, 2015. It’s unclear exactly how e-commerce will be affected with the new technology in the credit cards, but new procedures will most likely have to take place. It’s best to keep an eye out for these procedures because you don’t want your customers to go to pay you and the system constantly responds with errors. This is a big one to watch.

There always needs to be more content. I know I’m constantly being given more content to create than I have time for. There are CRM blogs , podcasts, and different types of videos. Then there are guest speaking engagements, webinars, and the list goes on and on. Some say there might be too much content out there. That might be true. However, you always need more, so having a reserve would be a great luxury to have. The other problem isn’t just content itself, but quality content. Anybody can make a piece of content, but is it actually worth showing to the public? It’s a fine line to walk

SEO is obviously important. Google’s search algorithm will constantly change, though. It’s vital to know what the algorithm adapts to, so you can make sure that your content will always show up when searched for. Don’t just think about Google, though. Also consider Facebook’s newsfeed and Bing has also gained some market share. Don’t just concern yourself with Google.

These aren’t all the trends out there today, but these are some to get you started. Give them a try and see where it leads you. Remember, if something isn’t working you can always stop
